On the Couch promo A4 17 7 2017

Hi everyone and welcome to the Bay of Plenty Garden and Art Festival.

As some of you may know, we are developing the Bay of Plenty Garden and Art Festival, and as well as the 2018 Festival week in November 2018, we are planning a series of events throughout that year, as well as a few things to get us moving forward this year – 2017.

These Lead-up events are being developed to promote the 2018 Bay of Plenty Garden and Art Festival and will be a way of promoting the 2018 Festival to the general public. They will be great events in their own right and are designed to be educational, entertaining and be a bit of fun, while keeping our theme of Gardens and Art firmly in the spotlight.

Our first Lead-up Event is ‘ON THE COUCH’ which will be held at Baycourt Theatre, 7.30pm on Friday 25th of August this year.

This event features internationally renowned Comedians Michele A’Court and Ben Hurley who will host the show and interview special guests in a fun and entertaining way. (Think “The Graham Norton Show”)

Our guests this year include:

Ruud Kleinpaste – The Bug Man

You probably know Ruud Kleinpaste by his media persona: the Bugman. He has featured in numerous and various television programmes, including Maggie's Garden Show, the children's program ‘What Now?’ and a couple of series for ‘Animal Planet’ and Discovery Channel, such as ‘Buggin' with Ruud’. Ruud is a regular magazine columnist on ecology, bugs and gardening.

Michelle McDonnell – Landscape Designer

Michelle McDonnell started her career as a plant breeding geneticist at the DSIR Plant Breeding Institute. Her passion for the beauty of garden design was realised by friends and colleagues. In 2001 Michelle began studying for a Diploma of Landscape Horticulture at Massey University.

Michelle has designed gardens in the Bay of Plenty and Waikato for a number of years, and has established a reputation that has led to referrals and features in many publications.

Brian Watson – Master Brewer

A qualified brewmaster with the Institute of Brewing and Distilling in the UK, Brian trained initially with DB Breweries in New Zealand, fulfilling the role as Head Brew of Montieths as part of his training. He has been the Chief Judge of the New Zealand International Beer Award in 2011 and 2012 and has been involved in judging beer in New Zealand since 1998. Brian has a degree in science and technology, he is passionate about creating tasty beverages with healthy and natural ingredients and is a founder and Director at Good George Brewing, Hamilton.

Rob McGregor - Artist

Artist Rob McGregor’s colourful and vibrant images inspire and excite.

His Coastal scenes, barbeques, marinas, cafés, nudes and jazz players populate his colourful Cezanne like landscapes and reflects the positive outlook he has on life. After a conversation with him, one soon realizes that art is one of his many passions. Before taking up art full-time, Rob was an art and design advisor for the Ministry of Education and his insight towards creativity in education is well worth considering. Rob and his wife, Joanne regularly travel the world seeking inspiration and he has developed a number of art courses and presented many papers and workshops at international conferences that inspire others.

Don’t miss out on this fantastic opportunity to be involved in a fun and entertaining evening.
